2 children, 1 adult in serious condition following fatal collision in Dade City

A fatal traffic accident on Old Lakeland Highway at Morningside Drive claimed one life and injured three others Tuesday night, officials said.

The traffic crash involved a white 2005 Infiniti and a white 2012 Dodge.

The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday on Old Lakeland Highway at Morningside Drive in Pasco County.

Police say the white Infiniti was traveling north on Old Lakeland Highway near the intersection of Morningside Drive. At the same time, the white Dodge was traveling south on Old Lakeland Highway approaching the intersection of Morningside Drive. For an unknown reason, the white Infiniti, driven by Sharon A. Sampson, crossed the center line and nearly collided head-on with the Dodge. 

The driver of the Infiniti, Sharon A. Sampson, 54, was pronounced dead after the crash. An 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were in the car with Sampson at the time of the crash. They are both in serious condition at St. Joseph's Hospital. Sampson was the legal guardian of the two children.

According to the official press release, Sampson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Dodge, George M. Anderson, 52, was taken by ambulance to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he remains in serious condition.

The road was closed for several hours while state troopers investigated the incident.
