Deputy swerves to avoid path of wrong-way driver

A Hillsborough County deputy swerved off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard early Tuesday morning to avoid a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver.
 
Fernando Ramirez, 27, was stopped after the deputy got back on the road and pulled him over just east of Valrico Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
 
The deputy began looking for the white Ford F-150 Ramirez was driving about 1:30 a.m. after someone reported seeing him drive in the wrong direction near Forbes Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard East, according to law enforcement.
 
When the deputy crossed paths with the vehicle, it was headed west in the eastbound lanes of Martin Luther King Boulevard.
 
Ramirez was charged with driving under the influence and not having a valid driver’s license.
