Hillsborough County Children's Services employee accused of hitting child

Hillsborough County deputies arrested an employee of Hillsborough County Children's Services on charges of Child Abuse.

Michael Hayes is a Senior Child Care Specialist whose job responsibility is to insure the well-being of children in child care facilities. But according to a report, another employee witnessed the 49-year-old Hayes hit a child on the chest, knocking him to the ground. The child was on crutches.

The alleged incident happened Tuesday around 10:30 p.m.

The facility provides counseling for at risk youth. There is also a youth housing area on the campus.

Hayes was arrested for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle in 1996.

According to Hillsborough County,  Hayes is on administrative leave pending the investigation of the incident.
