If you have old tires laying around, chances are, they're a haven for mosquitoes.
That prompted Hillsborough County to sponsor a free tire disposal event from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4115 S. 66th St in Tampa.
The event, hosted by the county's solid waste division and the resource management rapid response team, is open to all county residents, including those in Tampa, Plant City and Temple Terrace.
Each residential vehicle will be allowed to drop off up to 10 tires. Businesses are not allowed to participate.
Disposal will require at least one form of ID that shows a street address. Forms of ID that will be accepted include a driver's license, vehicle registration or utility bill.
Draining water in outdoor containers and getting rid of old tires helps prevent mosquito bites that could lead to mosquito-borne illnesses.
