A 50-year-old motorcyclist was killed after attempting to avoid a collision with an SUV in the parking lot of an auto parts store on Saturday night, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Now, authorities are searching for the SUV's driver.

Here's what happened around 8:30 p.m. at State Road 60 and Parsons Avenue, according to a report from FHP:

A 2011 Chevy Equinox was parked at Advanced Auto, 101 East SR 60 in Brandon, while a 2002 Honda motorcycle was headed eastbound on SR 60 just east of Parsons Avenue in the outside lane.

The Equinox failed to yield to traffic headed eastbound while exiting the parking lot, traveling into the path of the motorcycle.

In an effort to avoid a collision, the motorcyclist steered away from the Equinox and lost control, overturning and ejecting the rider.

There was no contact between the two vehicles.

The Equinox continued onto SR 60.

The motorcyclist was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital where he later died.

He was later identified as Scott Randall Caput, 50, of Brandon.

Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to call 813-631-4020.
