Dog, birds die in Hillsborough mobile home fire

A family's dog a their pet birds perished in a fire at a mobile home after a man and a woman were rescued, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Around 7:25 a.m., HCFR units responded to a mobile home fire at 11940 N. U.S. Highway 301 in Thonotosassa. When they arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the mobile home. They went inside, they found an adult male who was in critical condition, and rescued him. A woman was also rescued.

Both were taken to a trauma center for treatment.

Unfortunately, a family dog and a few birds died in the fire. A family cat that was rescued was given to a neighbor for follow up care.

The fire was extinguished and under control within 20 minutes.

The cause is under investigation.
