A coach responsible for collecting cash at athletic events has been arrested on grand theft charges.
According deputies from to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Charles Lattimore, 52, is accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from Gaither High School.
Deputies said Lattimore cashed checks which funded each event, but failed to turn in money collected at the gates.
When questioned, Lattimore told school officials $6,800 had been stolen by unknown persons, but was embarrassed to tell anyone. The district fired him.
During an investigation, an audit showed the school lost a total of $9,852.
Lattimore is charged with third degree grand theft.
He also served as a substitute teacher for Gaither.
