A child has died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday morning at The Preserve at Mobbly Bay apartments, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
The child, 12-year-old Leonard Pineda, was in middle school. He was reportedly running through the parking lot of the apartment complex to catch the bus Thursday morning. The sheriff's office report says he ran into the path of a Ford Expedition, which hit him and knocked him to the ground.
According to the report, neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as factors in the incident.
The scene was at an apartment complex at 8321 Solano Bay Loop, just off West Hillsborough Avenue in Tampa.
