Nearly five million Americans over the age of 50 are estimated to suffer from dry eye, according to the National Eye Institute.

Blepharitis, also called dry eye inflammation, is one of the most common conditions that causes dry eyes. The condition of the eyelid affects the eyelashes or tear production - causing redness, puffy eyes, itchiness, discharge, etc.

Dr. Samuel Teske, from The Eye Doctors of New Tampa and Trinity, came to talk to us about a new treatment he uses to treat blepharitis. It is called "BlephEx," and according to Dr. Teske, the treatment targets the continuous growth of bacteria under the eyelids that cause blepharitis.

If you suffer from such a condition, or think you might, Dr. Teske urges you to seek out the information of your own eye doctor or contact The Eye Doctors via their website or by phone at (813) 603-2328.

Their New Tampa office is located at 19070 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. and their Trinity center is at 7813 Mitchell Blvd #111 in New Port Richey.
