TAMPA, Fla. -- Hillsborough County transportation leaders are looking to set a list of new goals that can help reduce crashes and ease congestion without costly road widening projects.
They will be looking at data collected over the last decade, including the list of Tampa's 50 Most Congested Roadways and Tampa's Top 40 Crash Locations, as they work to update the The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Master Plan.
The ITS Master Plan was last updated in March of 2013, and is in need of a comprehensive review, according to county leaders.
The updated ITS Master Plan will serve as a guide for the development and deployment of ITS projects and technologies which can improve mobility and safety without widening roads. It will also help develop future road projects.
County leaders will formally start updating the ITS Master Plan in early 2020, but will begin setting goals on Thursday, July 11.
