TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa traffic safety organization is asking for families to offer their input on what makes them feel safe walking and biking to school through a new survey.

FILL OUT THE SIDEWALK STOMPERS SURVEY

The Sidewalk Stompers have already received more than 500 responses to the survey posted on Facebook. However, the organization is specifically looking for more kids to chime in.

They've already partnered with several Hillsborough County schools to get the survey out to families.

The survey asks questions about how kids walk and bike to school and the people they walk or bike with.

The questions also focus around traffic safety issues, including what factors would make them feel safer walking and biking. Sidewalk Stompers are now asking kids if they need more crosswalks, sidewalks and streetlights along certain parts of their commute to school.

"When we talk to you, when we talk to principals, when we talk to people in the city, these are the kinds of things that they want to know from us," said Emily Hinsdale with Tampa's Sidewalk Stompers.

Hinsdale said this data will be used to help Hillsborough and Tampa leaders make critical funding decision.

"This helps plan budgets when you start thinking about where you want to put the very limited amount of funding that city, state and county school districts will have," Hinsdale said. "So we wanted to get a little bit more targeted in terms of our answers."

The survey will be up and available until at least the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

Hinsdale said Sidewalk Stompers could start posting some of the results they are receiving as soon as next week.
