RIVERVIEW, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is stepping up enforcement and cracking down on drivers blocking intersections in Riverview.

On Friday, deputies sat along Boyette Road and US 301 to watch for drivers blocking traffic in the middle of the road.

The traffic enforcement unit put up flashing billboards a week ago warning drivers that you will face a $153 fine if caught.

Deputies were at the intersection at 6:30 in the morning to start cracking down on violators.

Corporal Laura Pekarek tells ABC Action News they have received complaints from this intersection.

“When we have people sit in the intersections and block the intersections, it disrupts the flow of traffic,” she said.

Deputies also witnessed drivers using a turn lane as another lane of traffic on Friday.

In all, deputies wrote nearly a dozen citations in an hour and a half.
