FDOT to replace bridge on Martin Luther King Jr. Street in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — FDOT is replacing the existing bridge on Martin Luther King Jr. Street South (9th Street South) between 6th Avenue South and 7th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.

This project is part of FDOT's Bridge Replacement Program.

The program prioritizes bridges based on things like age, traffic load, safety, condition, repair and construction material.

FDOT is replacing bridges that are nearing the the end of their service life to upgrade them to new design standards.

The goal is to improve safety, reduce vulnerability and preserve network connectivity.

This will cost $910,000 and will keep traffic flowing safely once construction is complete.

The project is currently in the design phase and construction is scheduled to begin in late 2020.
