RIVERVIEW, Fla. — A portion of Big Bend Road will shut down next week while the county works on big storm drain improvements in the Riverview area.

The closure will coincide with Hillsborough County’s spring break to try and help alleviate some of the impact to drivers.

The county sent out a press release that said motorists can expect delays from March 16 to March 24.

Big Bend Road will closed between Oxbridge Crest Place and Heritage Greens Parkway.

Drivers using Balm Riverview Road to U.S. 301 are urged to use a detour along Panther Trace Boulevard to get back to 301.

The work is expected to impact traffic; barricades and signs will help direct motorists around work crews.

The detour planned will add more traffic to a two-lane road that sees frequent backups in the southern part of Hillsborough County.

ABC Action News has looked into concerns on Balm Riverview because of the amount of new subdivisions along it. Drivers will want to use Panther Trace Boulevard because if they continue along Balm Riverview they will end up at Rhodine Road which is a four-way stop with no traffic signal.

We did a story last summer highlighting concerns about this intersection, and the county has plans for a traffic signal here, but a date hasn't been set in stone.
