Police: 10-year-old boy expected to be OK after accidental shooting in St. Pete

A 10-year-old boy is alert and talking with police after he was accidentally shot twice by an 11-year-old in south St. Pete Monday morning.

Authorities were called to a home in the 2300 block of 17th Avenue South around 10:35 a.m. following a report of gunshots. 

When officials arrived, they found a 10-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his arm and shoulder. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. 

According to police, a 17-year-old boy brought a gun into the home while he was supervising several children. An 11-year-old was playing with the firearm and it went off accidentally. 

Officials say the teen has been charged with aggravated child abuse. 

The investigation is ongoing.
