The city of Tampa is targeting communities of color to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

They started "Real Talk on 'Rona" webinars where residents can call in and listen or watch the webinar, then ask the medical professionals questions.

At Monday's virtual Emergency Policy Group meeting for Hillsborough County, an analyst presented data from the Department of Health. One of his biggest concerns was within the African-American and Hispanic communities.

Numbers show the percentage of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations within those groups were higher than their population percentages.

The analyst noted these communities see higher rates of chronic diseases that could put them at higher risk for contracting the virus and being hospitalized.

The city partnered with entities, including Tampa Family Health Centers, which are providing medical professionals to be interviewed on the webinar.

"Real Talk on 'Rona" will be held on Friday, April 24; Monday, April 27; Wednesday, April 29; and next Friday, May 1 at noon.
