The Broward County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of a deputy who died late Friday after being diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 27.
The victim is a 12-year veteran of the department, 39-year-old Deputy Shannon Bennett.
During a news conference Saturday morning, Sheriff Gregory Tony said Bennett had first reported he was sick on March 23.

Sheriff Tony said Bennett was in the care of the hospital system as of March 27 and was showing signs of recovery before passing away on April 3.
