A Brandon couple died Saturday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in New Port Richey.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 pm at the intersection of State Road 54 and Mitchell Ranch Rd., per a report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol. Steven W. Gerena, 50, was traveling east on SR 54 on his 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle approaching the intersection when he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to negotiate a left curve in the roadway.

Trudy Gerena, 53, was a passenger on her husband's motorcycle as it struck a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 27-year-old Dimitri Tagaropoulos of Holiday. The Gerenas, who were not wearing helmets, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Tagaropoulos was transported to North Pinellas Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

Alcohol did not play a factor in the incident and the official cause is under investigation.
