According to the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), more than 9 million households in the U.S. own some form of timeshare (weeks, points, club membership, etc.). The $9.6 billion industry consists of nearly 1,600 resorts in the U.S. alone, with 131 units per resort on average. Yet at any given time, it’s estimated that roughly 1 million people are looking to end their ownership. A quick and simple online search reveals thousands of timeshares listed for less than $1 or even free — with no interested buyers.
