Expand your area search when buying a car

and last updated 2016-02-01 20:17:42-05 crunched thousands of vehicle listings from Tallahassee to Miami. If you are willing to take a drive it could mean a savings of anywhere from a few hundred dollars to upwards of 1500 on your next new or used car.

For comparison we used a Chevy Tahoe. Tampa ranks 55 in affordability for this popular SUV, why? According to one of the driving factors for a vehicle's expected price was the dealer density for a given area.

Looking at county by county, on average a vehicle in the West Palm area runs 988 dollars below the state average but in Hillsborough County the same vehicle would run 298 dollars more than the state average. According to cars and trucks in rural Hernando County run about 1094 dollars more than the state average.

According to the data it pays to expand your search.  We found a 2011 Tahoe listed for $26,995 in Brandon. The same make, same miles lists for a grand less 109 miles away in New Smyrna. A 2015 Tahoe in Bradenton sports a sticker of $41,200 but this 2015 in Ocala with similar mileage lists for a full 2 grand less.
