Kohl's is hiring for the holiday season

Now that we've flipped the calendar over to October, retailers are shifting into high gear with their holiday preparations. The busiest shopping season launches in just a few short weeks and stores want to have a full staff to serve their customers. Companies such as UPS, Target and Home Depot already announced their hiring needs. Now, Kohl's joins the growing list by announcing their plans for holiday hiring. And this year, the department store chain has a new strategy up its sleeve. holiday shopping photo Unlike other companies, Kohl's did not announce a specific number of positions available for the holidays. Typically, seasonal job announcements outline how many jobs the company wants to fill. For example, UPS wants to hire 95,000 people. Meanwhile, Target has its eye on bringing in an additional 100,000 workers. But Kohl's decided to take a different approach this year and set aside tradition. "We continue to refine our company strategy, our hiring strategy, and the culture we're trying to build," Ryan Festerling, Kohl's executive vice president of Human Resources, told CNBC in an interview. "That's why we're doing what we're doing." The retailer's new strategy includes evaluating current employees' desire for extra hours first. Which Positions Need Filling

No matter what their approach, Kohl's still needs sales associates, distribution associates and freight associates for its busy holiday season. In addition to the company webpage, Kohl's plans to hold a seasonal hiring day on Oct. 7 at more than 200 locations around the country. Check your local store for more details. Last year, Kohl's announced their plans to hire 69,000 people for the 2016 holiday season. Of that group, approximately 14,000 temporary workers stayed with the company on a full-time basis.
