ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Happy National Puppy Day! If you do not have dog to celebrate with, head over to Pet Pal Animal Shelter in St. Petersburg and adopt our Pet of the Week.

This week we are featuring Red. He is a 2-year-old Chihuahua mix who needs a loving home.

According to the American Kennel Club, Chihuahuas are a national symbol of Mexico that possess big-dog attitude. They usually require training to prevent them from ruling over your home.

Shelter workers say Red loves to play and needs a family with patience to help him build his confidence. He would prefer a home with no small children.

Red is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200.

For more information about how to adopt Red or other animals from Pet Pal Animal Shelter, you can call them (727) 328-7738 or go online to www.petpalanimalshelter.com.

Pet Pal Animal Shelter is located at 405 22nd Street South Street in St. Petersburg. You can visit all their dogs and cats up for adoption Tuesdays to Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 to 4:30 p.m.
