Pet of the week: Maya loves playing fetch

This week's pet of the week is a beautiful Black Mouth Cur/Shepard mix. Maya is approximately 14 months old. She weighs 54 lbs.

Maya was found on the streets in Seminole in November. Since then 4 Lucky Dogs Pet Rescue has been getting her ready to find her forever family. That day has arrived.

She is crate trained and housebroken, knows basic commands like "sit," "down," and "come." She is learning "leave it." Shelter workers report she is a quick learner but can be a bit stubborn at times.

Black Mouth Curs were bred to herd and hunt, so they may have high prey drives. That is why Maya would do best in a home with only adults, older children and other larger dogs. She would not be good with good with smaller dogs and cats (probably because she would try to herd them.)

Black Mouth Curs can be protective, loyal, kind, fearless, active, trainable and extremely smart. They are loving, gentle family dogs as long as they are provided the mental and physical stimulation they need.

A family that could take Maya to a dog park to play with other bigger dogs or play catch with would be preferred.

Maya's adoption fee is $150 which includes her spay, microchip, and vaccinations.

To learn more about how to adopt Maya, call 4 Lucky Dogs Pet Rescue at (941) 960-5700 or email 4luckydogspetrescue@gmail.com.  You can also fill out the adoption request form for Maya at 4luckydogspetrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption.
