Our pet of the week needs a Christmas miracle. Garth would really like to find a forever home by the New Year.

Garth had a sad start to his life, but he has overcome a lot to become a goofy, very affectionate and playful dog.

He found himself at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center in Tampa after his owner was charged with beating him in the head with a hammer. Despite this horrible act, Garth held no grudge towards humans.

The folks at Second Chance Friends took Garth in to give him a second chance at finding a forever family. Shelter workers say Garth would do best with an active family that enjoys taking him out to throw a ball or going on hikes.

Garth would not do well in a home with cats or young children, but has proven to be very tolerant of other dogs. He is a 3-year-old American Staffordshire Pit Bull Terrier Mix.

If you are interested in adopting Garth or any of the animals up for adoption by Second Chance Friends, you can visit their website at www.secondchancefriends.org or call (813) 263-6450. Please leave your contact information (phone number and e-mail) so shelter workers can get in contact with you.
