Atkins bars recalled due to Listeria concerns

Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall on certain bar products.

These recalled products contain or may have come in contact with equipment that processed products containing sunflower seeds distributed by supplier SunOpta, Inc. that may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon, but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, listeriosis can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, pregnant women and persons with human immunodeficiency virus (“HIV”) infection or undergoing chemotherapy. Symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, neck stiffness, nausea, confusion, and convulsions.

At this time, there have been no reports of illness associated with the consumption of Atkins' bar products.

Consumers are urged to destroy any potentially affected product and contact Atkins Nutritionals, Inc. Customer Service at 855.201.4611 or atkins@inmar.com Monday through Friday during the hours of 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. EST to request a coupon towards a free replacement product.
