Barbara Newkirk of Wesley Chapel is a gifted teacher, and not just with her students. She gave all of Tampa Bay a lesson in giving four years ago, a gift that keeps giving.
In 2014, with only a few months before her wedding, she canceled it and set out to do something positive with the wedding dress, the food, and the venue she'd picked out for the reception. In fact, she gave it all away to strangers.
It was a first for the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation, which turned that gift into an annual tradition that has raised $393,000 to date helping breast cancer patients pay essential bills like food and housing.
This game changer allows patients to focus on fighting their cancer.
