A depression opened under a home in Holiday on Monday afternoon, some 30-feet wide and 10-feet deep.
The home belongs to Alice Hammond, who lives off Genesis Avenue. She was not home when the depression opened below her bedroom. She left last week on a road trip with her granddaughter to visit family in New York.
"I'm just sick right now. I can't even think," Hammond said over the phone.
Hammond spoke exclusively to ABC Action News. She said the news was extra tough on her because she was already dealing with a car accident she was in last week.
"I just can't believe everything at once has to happen to me," she said.
Hammond is currently searching for a flight to return to Florida. Her family has been giving her updates.
"We just seen it on the news at 4 o'clock and my daughter says, 'Ma, that's auntie Alice's house," said Janet Barile.
Barile said she was shocked as well.
"I was sick for her," Barile said.
Hammond has lived in the home for 13 years and she does not want to lose it.
"I don't know what to do. I have no insurance on that house," Hammond said.
According to the county, crews will return to the home on Tuesday morning to determine whether the depression has expanded or not and at what rate. An official with the county will evaluate the home and determine whether it is safe for Hammond to live in it again.
Three families who live next to Hammond's house voluntarily evacuated. Two of them were helped by the Red Cross and were provided with hotel rooms. The third family decided to stay with a relative.
