The Red Cross will be screening local clients for Hurricane Irma disaster assistance Oct. 17-19 at Lakeshore Mall in Sebring.

The screenings will be in Suite 59 near Kmart. Everyone is asked to park on the back side of the mall and use the entrance nearest Kmart, which is where the line will start. The screenings will be held from 1-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17 and from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 18-19.

These benefits are only for people whose homes were destroyed or suffered major structural damage during Hurricane Irma. Examples of structural damage that qualify are homes that had a large portion of their roof or a wall missing, homes that were shifted off their foundation or homes that had over 18 inches of flooding in the living space.

The Red Cross has already done assessments on many of these homes. If you come to the assistance location and your home is not on the assessment list, you will be given an appointment to come back the next day so that a team can go assess your home.

The Red Cross says you must bring a valid photo ID with the address of the damaged home, or a photo ID and a piece of mail, such as a utility bill, that proves residency in the home.

Please be prepared to wait patiently in line.
