TAMPA, Fla. — Rent in Tampa is 2.9 percent more expensive than it was this time last year, according to a new report from real estate company Zillow.

That's more than the national average for rent, which only saw a 0.5 percent increase.

While this may be bad news for renters, it's a different story for homeowners. The report shows that the value of homes in Tampa has risen 10 percent in the last year.

"The typical U.S. home is worth $222,800, up 7.7 percent year-over-year," the report says.
