The Buckeyes coach has dealt for years with a congenital arachnoid cyst in his brain that causes what his doctor has called aggressive headaches. Meyer had surgery to address the issue in the spring of 2014.
The university will reportedly name Ryan Day as the 25th head coach in the history of the program.
A press conference will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday to announce Meyer's retirement and introduce Day.
Meyer was the coach of the Florida Gators from 2005 to 2010.
