The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have elected to use the franchise tag on linebacker Shaq Barrett, ESPN reports.

A franchise tag is a one-year deal that prevents a player from becoming a free agent.
This allows the Bucs to hang onto Barrett without giving him a long-term deal.
The salary amount is set by averaging the top five salaries at that player's position for the previous year, or 120% of a player's previous salary.
