Warrant issued for man suspsected in the homicide of 30-year-old Latoya Smith

A warrant has been issued for a man suspected in the murder of a woman found suffering from a fatal head injury.

Jovan Quinton Huggins, 23, who had previously been identified as a person of interest, is now a suspect in the murder of 30-year-old Latoya Smith, according to officials.

Smith was found in the roadway at the 2100 block of Flora Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. on October 20 suffering from a fatal head injury. She was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said Smith was seen with Huggins shortly before she was found. At the time, Huggins was wearing a red shirt and black shorts.

Shortly after being found, Smith's registered black Dodge Charger was involved in a hit-and-run crash near Cass Street and Willow Avenue. A male fitting the description of Higgins was seen running from the Charger.
