TAMPA, Fla. -- Tampa City council will meet for the first time in several weeks.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they will not be meeting in person. Instead, it'll be a phone conference. The meeting starts at 11 a.m.

John Bennett, Mayor Jane Castor's chief-of-staff will brief council members about the city's COVID-19 response and other city business.

Council was supposed to meet on March 12, but Chairman Luis Viera canceled, due to the virus.

Their next meeting was supposed to be April 16, but Chairman Viera said they are eager to get back to work. He said they are hoping to get some guidance from Bennett and the city's legal staff on how to move forward as a council without being able to meet in person with the tax payers.
