SANFORD, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested on Wednesday after leading deputies on a wild pursuit.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, John McGowen, 29, was wanted in a case that originated with a carjacking call in DeLand, where he fled and rammed a VCSO patrol unit en route to a high-speed trip to Seminole.
Additionally, VCSO says that another deputy responding to the call with lights and sirens active was clipped by a vehicle, which pushed him into another vehicle, which rolled over. Luckily, no serious injuries.
Around 1 p.m., McGowen's vehicle crossed into Seminole County.
A Seminole County deputy performed an initial pursuit intervention technique, in a field off 25th Street in Sanford, which proved unsuccessful. Units performed a second pit maneuver at 20th Street and Hays Drive.
After crashing the vehicle, McGowen bailed out and began to flee on foot. He even jumped a fence and ran through a neighborhood. Eventually, deputies were able to apprehend him.
At least two Seminole County Sheriff’s vehicles and two Volusia County vehicle were damaged in the chase. No deputies were reported injured.
Official charges are pending.
