Florida legislators are returning to Tallahassee for an election-year session where they are promising to start the new year getting down to work instead of repeating fights from 2015.

The 60-day session officially starts Tuesday and lawmakers are expected to grapple with everything from gambling to guns. Republican leaders are promising that they will put aside their differences that led to a budget stalemate last year.

Gov. Rick Scott will open the session with his annual "State of the State" speech, where the governor will call on lawmakers to pass a $1 billion tax cut package. Scott on Monday went before a legislative committee to try to win over skeptical legislators.

But while Scott will be talking about jobs, legislators are expected to spend their first week tackling a comprehensive water bill and passing bills to aid children with developmental disabilities.
