A Marion County teaching assistant has been arrested and charged for allegedly having sexual contact with a 14-year-old middle school student, deputies say.

Detectives received information 37-year-old Katie Carsey, a married mother of two, was having a relationship with a 14-year old student that she met last school year while working as a paraprofessional teacher's assistant at Fort McCoy Middle School in Fort McCoy.

Detectives found that, in July, a MCSO deputy had found Carsey found partially clothed in a vehicle leaving a church parking lot, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said. She told the deputy that she was there to meet another adult male.

Detectives say that during the investigation, Carsey gave conflicting accounts regarding her involvement with the juvenile victim. They say that after being presented with the facts of the investigation, Carsey confessed to having sexual contact with the juvenile victim.

Officials say that the 14-year-old, who is no longer a student at the school, confirmed the allegations, stating that he had been with Carsey in the church parking lot the night she was stopped by the MCSO deputy.

The victim stated that he fled when he saw the deputy about to pull into the church parking lot.

Carsey has been arrested and charged with one count of Lewd or Lascivious Molestation. She is currently in the Marion County Jail with her bond set at $10,000.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is urged to contact MCSO Major Crimes Inspector Erik Dice at 352-368-3545.
