Gov. Rick Scott is advising anyone in Florida who is planning on becoming pregnant to put together a Zika prevention kit.
Zika Tracker: Interactive map & graphic show confirmed and locally transmitted Zika virus cases
The Centers for Disease Control says the items in the prevention kits can be bought at local stores and include things like mosquito spray with DEET.
The list of items include:
- Mosquito dunk tablets that can go in standing water in places like bird baths. The tablets are safe around pets, but they'll kill mosquito larvae that are present in water.
- Condoms because the virus can be transmitted sexually
- Permethrin spray: You spray it on your clothes, which helps repel mosquitoes.
- Bed netting if your room has a tendency to have mosquitoes in it
