Michelle Bitar's husband, Sam, has been battling stage four sarcoma cancer for years.
"Life's changed a lot for us, you basically just live in the doctors' appointments or hospitals," said Bitar of her husband's current routine. "It's 24 hours a day of the most challenging times you've ever been through in your life."
Sam Bitar's health has continued to go down hill, but was once a self described gym rat, six pack and all. Most days you could find him pumping iron at Calta Fitness on Florida Avenue.
"Of course they make it like a big family you know. They are your best friend, and we definitely didn't feel like that when it was time to cancel," said Bitar.
Sam Bitar has been a loyal member there, but can't make it anymore and tried to cancel his membership.
"I was supposed to cancel in person but I was unable to make it to the business," said Sam Bitar, who now requires a walker to move about.
After getting the run around for a month, Bitar finally got through to the owner.
"The owner says 'OK, we'll cancel, but it's going to be two months, that's what the contract says,'" said Bitar.
According to a manager at the gym, they are now offering Bitar a refund and a sincere apology for the mix-up.
Bitar and her husband said it was never about the money but the lack of compassion.
