West River redevelopment takes giant step forward on Wednesday

Wednesday morning, redevelopment in Tampa is taking a giant leap forward. Mayor Bob Buckhorn is set to demo a wall at the City of Tampa Water and Wastewater Maintenance Yard.

This is the next step in the West River area redevelopment. That's the 120 acres near Rome Avenue, Columbus Avenue, the Hillsborough River and I-275.

The plan is for 1600 new residential units at all price points, and to connect this area to North Hyde Park.

You may remember, in October of 2016, the city took a big hit to the project, not getting a $30 million federal grant for this project.

The next step in the redevelopment project is set for 8:30 am Wednesday morning.
