Homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a man early Thursday morning in Tampa near Memorial Park Cemetery.
At approximately 12:42 a.m., officers responding to an emergency 911 call found an adult man dead near the intersection of 23rd Street North and Lake Avenue East.
Authorities say 39-year-old Curtis Eugene Thomas suffered severe trauma to his upper body. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Thomas had been arrested dozens of times since the mid-1990s. He served over six years in State Prison on drug charges.
Police have not disclosed the circumstances behind Thomas' murder or if some type of weapon was used in the killing.

Officials expect to release additional details as their investigation continues.
