TAMPA, Fla. — Deputies are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in Tampa on Monday morning.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports 77-year-old William Costello was initially involved in an accident with another vehicle at USF Pine Drive.
As Costello walked back to retrieve information from his vehicle for the crash report, he failed to observe a 2017 Kia Sorrento traveling northbound on Bruce B. Downs in the center through lane.
The Kia, driven by 20-year-old Adrianne Ojeda, struck and killed Costello. The Sheriff's Office says Ojeda stopped at the accident scene.
North and southbound lanes of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard between Fowler Avenue and Fletcher Avenue were closed for hours as deputies investigated.
