A 53-year-old man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery after he argued with a man on the beach and ended up attacking him with a shovel.

Christopher Carosella knowingly struck Chrstian Gies with a shovel on Friday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. near the 10400 block of Gulf Boulevard in Treasure Island after the two got into a verbal altercation on the beach.

Carosella reportedly picked up the metal spaded shovel and hit the victim in the side of his abdomen and his left arm. Gies started running away and Carosella chased after him until on-lookers stepped in to protect him.

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene. He suffered bruising and abrasions to his abdomen and his left arm. He refused further medical treatement at the scene.

Carosella was booked at 7:45 p.m. into the Pinellas County Jail and he bonded out at 1:25 a.m. on Saturday, July 30. ($10,000 bond)
