Deputies have arrested a man that attempted to kidnap a 16-year-old after getting off the bus on the first day of school.

The girl says that she had just gotten off the school bus at about 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 10 near Himes Avenue and Flora Street. She says that she noticed that she was being followed by an SUV with all four windows rolled down.

The man, identified as Juan Pablo Bonilla, asked the girl if she needed a ride. She did not respond. Bonilla pulled off to the side of the road at Himes Avenue and Minnehaha Street.

He got out of his car and tried to grab the girl from behind.

The victim ran to a bank of America at the corner of Himes Avenue and Hillsborough Avenue and asked a security guard inside for help.

Deputies arrested Bonilla at his home without incident on Friday, August 18 and transported him to Orient Road Jail. He is being charged with attempted kidnapping.
