HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies say they have arrested a man responsible for throwing chemicals on cars in popular Tampa parking lots.

Scott Stone, 37, admitted to throwing the chemicals on two luxury vehicles, causing $3,200 worth of damage.

Stone's blue 2012 GLK Mercedes was identified through surveillance video at one crime scene around the time the vandalism occurred.

In an interview with detectives, he said he damaged both cars but did not know their owners.

He reportedly said he did it because the vehicles resembled those driven by the same type of people that made fun of him in college. Detectives believe he used a brake cleaner or rust remover to damage the cars.

He is charged with two counts of criminal mischief.

Deputies are aware of two similar cases that occurred recently, including one in the city of Tampa, but HCSO detectives are still trying to determine if the cases are related.
