A former school janitor at Village of Excellence Academy is charged with sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
"A janitor?! That's what's in my head-- a janitor from a school?” said mom Wallkeer Lynn. "I got four kids of my own and all girls and I keep them at a tight side ways. They don't go no where.”
This mom is surprised it happened in the park where she takes her girls to play and eat lunch.
"I don't teach them to look at everybody bad but I teach them to watch their surroundings,” said Lynn.
Tampa Police say 32-year-old Kent Burden met up with the 13-year-old teen at Takomah Trail Park back in April.
An arrest report says when she told him to "stop" because he was being a "nasty old man" he sexually assaulted her. It also says the attack happened after hours when the park was closed.
It's the same park Hilda Mercado reads the bible in every day.
"I'm scared. We're scared because imagine, I never see something like that and you come over here and tell me. I say, Oh my God,” she said.
Not a good feeling for either of these women who say they feel for the teen and hope the suspect is put in prison.
"This is a good park. Usually after hours when the park is closed you always see an officer or something sitting here,” explained Lynn.
