Tampa police are investigating after a car was found partially submerged in the Hillsborough River early Wednesday morning.

Tampa police first responded to the scene after hearing that something was on fire. Tampa Fire and Rescue responded to North Boulevard where it intersects with West Osborne Avenue at the Hillsborough River.

When officials arrived, they found that a car was partially submerged in the river.

No one was in the vehicle.

Divers went into the river to check the tags on the car. Deputies determined that the car was stolen.

"Looks like somebody dumped the car in a very dramatic fashion," said TPD PIO Steve Hegarty.
