One hospitalized after shooting in St. Pete, police searching for suspect

St. Petersburg Police actively searching for the the person behind an early Tuesday morning shooting at the  the intersection of 9th Avenue South and 20th Street South.

Police warning people in the area to be on alert until they have the shooter in custody.

Police say that around 5:15 a.m., a man in his late fifties was riding his bike at the intersection when he was approached by another man around 30-years-old, also riding his bike. The younger man took out a handgun to rob the older man. The older man resisted and a struggle ensued. The older man was shot in the ankle. The suspect rode away from the area. The victim was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

9th Avenue South was completely shut down as investigators gathered evidence.

Police are speaking with witnesses in the area trying to get as much information as possible.
