19-year-old killed in motorcycle crash in St. Pete

A 19-year-old man died earlier this morning in a motorcycle accident at the intersection of 30th Avenue N. and 66th St. in St. Petersburg, according to St. Pete police.

On Monday, December 5 at 10:25 p.m., a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Patricia N. Stevenson was traveling southbound on 66th Street North, in the turn lane, when she attempted to turn left onto 30th Ave. N. and hit a motorcycle, operated by James V. Redner-Gilmartin, that was traveling northbound on 66th Street North in the median lane behind another vehicle.

St. Pete police say that just before he made it to the intersection, Redner-Gilmartin, changed lanes into the middle lane and accelerated. Stevenson did not see Redner-Gilmartin on his motorcycle and made the left turn, striking him on his motorcycle. 

Redner-Gilmartin was not wearing a helmet was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital and released. 

All lanes of 66th Street were closed at 30th Ave. N., for several hours while police investigated the accident.
