PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — The newly formed Pinellas County Contractor Licensing Department is up and running. They are hoping to stop unlicensed contractors from working on homes.

“It’s all about the insurance they carry in case something gets damaged and they carry workers comp in case there is an injury,” said Glenn Wardell, the director of the agency.

He said the agency has already issued about 200 citations to unlicensed contractors since July.

“Our message is you need to stop, get a license,” said Wardell.

Thomas Kopczynski is a Pinellas County general contractor.  He said unlicensed workers give his company a bad name.

“The contractors are getting a bad name, because the customers aren’t happy with them not giving quality work,” said Kopczynski.
