Residents in the Wimauma community are managing a resurgence. They are welcoming growth, while also trying to maintain the areas rural charm.

"The construction is here we have a Walmart, Wawa, and thousands of homes being built," said Wimauma resident Jackie Brown.

The population in the Wimauma area is doubling, but a third of the residents are still living in poverty. The Wimauma Community Development Corporation brought in state, county, and business leaders to the area on Tuesday morning.

"We are trying to show them what opportunities we have here," said Brown.

The tour took people across the community while highlighting community centers, schools, and housing developments.

"We would like to maintain our roots, but we are moving forward to the future," said Brown.

Thousands of new residents are expecting to move to Wimauma as Hillsborough County continues to grow.
